Our New Model: The Florence Bass
Leaning into the retro-vibe a bit more, they’ve put the Florence Bass into the world to truly capture some of the “old school” sound. With our new Bass model we wanted to capture the vintage appeal while developing practical, modern features.
The electronics on the Florence Bass make this objective a reality — a big ol’ humbucker placed in the “sweet spot,” which paired with the push/pull tone pot makes for very versatile, yet sounds (ranging from that classic split coil sound to a gigantic Mudbucker sound!).

Oliver Riedel is auctioning basses for Ukraine
Rammstein bassist Oliver Riedel is auctioning off two of his personally signed basses together with Sandberg Guitars. As part of the GEAR FOR HOPE music auction, the proceeds will be donated to aid organizations in Ukraine.
Many artists and manufacturers are now offering their instruments and accessories on the “United Charity” platform. Selected Ukraine projects are supported at the fundraising auction site.
Originial Tour Basses
Oliver’s two basses to be auctioned have been used in countless stage shows around the world for over 13 years. They have been hand-signed and have a unique value. A certificate prepared by Sandberg Guitars confirms the uniqueness and authenticity.
Sandberg Guitars and Oliver Riedel have been working closely together since 1997. His signature model is a representation of the Rammstein bassist in terms of sound, handling, and design. A special aging, an ebony fretboard, Sandberg Power Humbuckers and Split Coil pickups make the Oliver Riedel Signature California VM 4-string so distinctive.

Hand signed and very rare
Additionally, the two basses being auctioned have the original Sandberg California body shape, making them a real rarity! On the United Charity platform there is now the opportunity to bid on these two unique items and support the people of Ukraine with the proceeds.

Feeling the Heat – Sandberg introduces Thermo-Treatment
After long and intensive research we have developed probably the gentlest, most effective method to refine tone woods.
The process we call “Thermo Treatment” takes several days and results in a more stable, durable, and better sounding wood.
Check out the video for some insights!

Guitars added + new 27” Baritone Options
Just in time for the 35th company anniversary, Sandberg updated the configurator to a more mobile friendly format. In addition to countless bass creations, Sandberg have finally added guitars – the California ST and California DC!
The California ST offers various options. Instead of the classic 3 single coil assembly, a humbucker can also be selected on the bridge position. The ST comes standard with a 25.5″ scale, and a 27 “baritone scale is available.
After picking one of the countless possible combinations, the instrument can be ordered directly from local retailers using the generated PDF.

Sandberg celebrates 35th company anniversary
Just in time for the 35th anniversary, Sandberg presents a very special Anniversary model:
The Sandberg California Supreme
The boutique bass flagship of Braunschweig´s creative forge dazzles with a beautiful hand-selected curly maple top, matching headstock, and noble oval inlay. Beyond that, this bass embodies all the experience and all the technical refinements that Sandberg mastermind Holger Stonjek and his team have developed in over 3 decades.
The 6-bolt neck made of European maple was subjected to Sandberg’s signature “Thermo Treatment.” In this process, the tonewoods are roasted in a special thermal oven for several days. The result: the cell structure of the wood changes in such a way that the wood vibrates like an old, seasoned piece of wood. The wood also gets less sensitive to climatic changes as a result.

The tailpiece, knobs, solid bridge, and precisely working Sandberg Super Light tuners made of stiff aircraft aluminum. These developments have been constantly refined over the years and reflect the experience of the last 35 years.
The active Sandberg 3-band electronics offers unique features and a plethora of sound options. It is one of the few bass premaps on the market that can continue to operate passively without interruption in the event of a battery failure. In addition to bass, mid, treble, and balance controls, a push/pull volume knob lets you choose between active and passive. In passive mode, the EQ’s treble control acts as a passive treble blend.
The ebony fingerboard, 22 frets, special oval inlays, and “glow-in-the-dark” side dots bring both high-function and elegance.
The Sandberg California Supreme – 35 years of experience and passion.

WE PROUDLY ANNOUNCE: MARTIN MENDEZ SIGNATURE BASS / OPETH
OPETH bass player gives the CALIFORNIA TT a new spin
Sandberg is proud to welcome a new member to the Sandberg Signature Artist-Family: Martin Mendez, bass player of the Swedish progressive metal giants OPETH.
For many years, Martin has been playing Sandberg basses both in the studio and live, making it an obvious step for us to approach him with the idea of a signature bass. Of course, Martin loved it so we went on planning out the bass that finally has Martin’s name on in and personal touch.
The bass is based on a Sandberg California T passive. It features a European alder body with either a soft aged finish in Virgin White or a European ash body with a finish in Black matt.
The Canadian hardrock maple neck with matching headstock and the ebony fingerboard with 22 frets gives it a great look and provides a nice bite and a fast response, and is secured snugly with our 6-bolt system.
Martin Mendez in the Sandberg Workshop
For the Black Matt model, Martin also wanted to have the option for a maple fingerboard with block inlays as it simply looks killer! To give it a more unique and dark look, Martin decided to go for black hardware and so the basses come with black Sandberg hardware for improved sustain and bolder tone as well as the black lightweight tuners.
As Martin wanted a classic and traditional sound with a certain bite, he chose two Delano JMVC pickups set in a special position that is a little bit closer to the bridge.
Every Martin Mendez Signature Bass is subjected to the Sandberg “Vibration Treatment”, which results in an improved resonance and an authentic old school sound of an instrument that has been played for many years.
Welcome on board Martin!

New Member in the sandberg-Family
As the insanity of 2020 comes to a close, we find it best to take a moment to reflect on some of the good times. In this case, we’d like to reflect on the day we hand-delivered a special creation to one of our biggest inspirations to date; our new Sandberg Artist MonoNeon.
Beyond the absolute musical prowess and influential creativity, we are inspired by MonoNeon’s ethos — his commitment to free expression and unbridled originality. Spending time with him this year at NAMM, making and hand-delivering the special Neon Patchwork bass to him, and playing “Truth or Dare Trivia” on our Instagram Live with him were a few of the wonderful moments we’ll cherish forever, thanks to this musical/cultural visionary.
There may only be a handful of people you will spend time with in your lifetime who will rock you to your core with their authenticity. We are so fortunate and thankful to have that with MonoNeon and look forward to what he continues to create for years to come.

We proudly announce:
The new signature model with Victor Brandt, bass player of Norwegian symphonic black metal kings DIMMU BORGIR.
Based on the Forty Eight model, an original Sandberg design, we modified the Victor Brandt signature to Victor’s exact specifications.
Victor wanted to get the exact sound that he has had in his head, so we tried several pickup positions, moving our Black Label SplitCoil Pickups around to match his exact taste. The bass now provides the voluminous and assertive bass sound he was looking for, from aggressive-and-biting to smooth-and-fat.
He wanted electronics that will not “drop out” if the battery gets low. Fortunately, the Sandberg preamp can handle that situation as you can choose between active and passive. It offers a wide range of sounds and tonal options to be a versatile all-purpose answer for all musical styles.

This black beast is available with an alder body in Hardcore Aged Reserve Finish and an ash body in matte finish. Both finishes feature a completely blacked out Canadian rock maple neck, a matching AND reserved headstock, and an ebony fingerboard with 22 frets for hyper-fast and comfortable playability. It comes equipped with Sandberg’s custom designed bridge and airplane aluminium light wight tuners.
Killer look, versatile tone, and the pinnacle of advanced guitar craftmanship unite in the Victor Brandt Signature Bass!

New Signature Bass of Martin Mendez
This Summer, Martin Mendez, bass player in Swedish prog metal giants OPETH stopped by our workshop.
For years, Martin has SANDBERG basses in his arsenal and was using them live and in the studio for a long time. Earlier this year, he approached us with some specific ideas about a new bass, based on a SANDBERG California 4 string with a 34” scale length.
Martin Mendez in the Sandberg Workshop
We spent two days in our Workshop in Braunschweig and went thru a lot of different woods, wood combinations, and discussed specs and pickup configurations.
Martin was well prepared and had specific ideas about his new bass and so we made a good process within the two days.

Getting the Sound
Martin spent a lot of time with our pickup testing bass moving pickups back and forth to find his sweet spot and the exact sound he was looking for. He wanted a classic and traditional sound with a certain bite!
Finally it’s a Delano JMVC pickups set in a special position that is a little bit closer to the bridge.
Martin was pretty sure about alder being the right body wood. That is the sound he is used to and what works perfect for his musical environment.

Choosing wood and finish
For the neck he decided to go for a Canadian hard rock maple and an ebony fretboard. Both woods are very hard and give the bass a nice bite and fast attack.
The finish of the bass is a beautiful soft aged virgin white with a matching head that, along with the black hardware, looks pretty classy.
